Here is the newest boat out of the shop earlier today. Has a real metal look with the silver paint. Taking a different boat out to Lake of the Ozarks in 2 weeks to try and defend the Top Gun record of 208 mph. Fun...

Disney called, they want their stage double for "Flight of the Navigator" returned immediately.
That thing is BAD.
Specs?
Can I ski behind it?

Normal engines - (2) 1800 hp PSI blown BBC's set at 1500 hp for longevity.
Setup for turbines too, but don't know if they will end up in it or not.
Still should run around 180+ mph with those piston engines.
How's your Chevelle running with the intercooler now that you probably have it tuned to perfection by now...

Is 180 a typo? Aren't top fuel hydros running about 230 with over 6,000 hp?

Still an absolutely awesome looking boat though! Should run strong!

not a typo , just a different type of racing , top fuel hydro is a standing 1/4 mile .
love the boat !

Oh yeah, I definately realize that, but I just am blown away at that top speed. I am assuming it will have surface drives to hold up to that power?

The prior hull and the same engines runs a little over 180 and there is quite a bit of tuning left. But you have to remember, this is over either a standing mile or open race environment. Can't accelarate a 50 foot boat anywhere near as fast as a Blown Hydro, but you can make it to the Bahamas in 20 minutes from Florida !! Just like going to the grocery store...
Yes, it uses surface drives, usually BPMs.

Here is one of the older boats we had - 55 foot, 40,000 lb V-hull, twin Lycoming T55 -L11 turbines. 130 mph. 12 gallons per minute. Not the most fuel efficient, but loads of fun.

That is a gorgeous boat... I think you already have the record because it is doing 250 just sitting there ! I live by a guy named Howard Arneson and old Howard used to take me out in his 36 ft skater about 20 years ago . It had some TP 70 jet helicopter turbin in it and he would cruise that boat at a buck thirty five all day long like it was nothing.... I have never been in his bigger boat but I hear that will do the same but at around a 160mph...the guy is like 85 now and is the inventor of the surface prop and pool sweep.... very smart man

I used to build a lot of speedmasters for a lot of the offshore boats at lake X in Florida and a lot of on water testing we did their. Nice boat what name is going on that one?

Howard is THE man. Glad he took you for a ride. Very cool. He is the one responsible for this type of stuff. His turbine Skater was the first. A 36 ft, the 40 ft, etc. Surface drives with turbines, etc. Here is a pic of two of his ASD-12 drives on the back of the boat from the above post.

It is called the Callan 55. The new version is by the same designer (Mystic Powerboats) and is called the C62/M6000.
Lake X is a fun place. Did some prop testing there on a turbine boat. A couple of the Merc guys came unglued when they found we had spun their lab finished props as high as 10,000 rpm when they are rated for less than half of that. Very funny faces.
Wow, killer stuff!! I bet that thing sounds wicked at WOT.

Yeah old Howard is very cool , very interesting and a genrous guy too. Whenever we would come in and people would be watching he would dump the raw fuel into the turbin and put on a show
Bruce, What does one of those surface drives cost these days.Let the people know so they don't get any ideas. After seeing the beautiful boat that they may say " hey , I think I will build one of those " :) You though your P-T car was expensive..... make sure you are sitting down before you read on !!

I haven't looked at the Arneson drive prices in a while, but if I remember correctly the custom Rolla props in the picture cost $56K for the first set. Even the small, lab finished Merc props used on the little boat run $20K a set. Put a marine or aviation use on it and the prices go way up...

I've done 250 knots 10 feet over the water, in a turbo prop and that was a kick. Can't imagine doing 208 mph in a boat! :hail:

Hey Dan -
What a great weekend. We were pretty happy. Set a new record of 209 mph Sunday afternoon. Kind of hoping one of the 3 Bud boats would have run a little better, but that's racing. Here's some of the eye candy that came over and hung out on the boat with us. Let me tell you, it was pretty tough to take...lol
I wish I could post the video I took from the cockpit, but it definitely won't fit.

I don't know if it was your first time, but sounds like you had a blast out there. Glad you got to run a boat too. It was such a zoo on Saturday trying to maneuver in and out of Shooters. Spoke with Jeff Dorhauer (event coordinator) and he said they thought there were upwards of 40,000 people.
Hopefully we'll see you out there next year... :)

Here is a video clip of the run. Think of it as a Maxton Mile on water with 12,000 lbs going over 200.
