Hi my name is Larry and I been a member here for a while. I own a rod and custom shop called L&L Custom Performance in south central Wisconsin. I joined at the urgeing of a customer who's 68 firebird we did the custom paint and metal wiork on. It is a great site. Lot's of great prodjects and information. I was basicly checking in from time to time checking out the new prodjects, catch up on the progress of other's. and genuinely enjoying myself. Aside from introduceing myself to begin with I had not posted anything. But since I had started posting on several other sites[ tri five.com streetrod.com to name a few.] I thought I would try this site , make a few new online friend's, exchange some info ,share a few joke's. So I did a couple post just to relax and share some idea's. What I got was scolded for "yelling" evidently when you type with the cap's on your "yelling" and that it is anoying. This something I did not know. I type with the caps on because first I am lousey at typeing, second I am old [52] and I can see what I am typeing better. On top of that I am accused of possibly being some type of scamer. Well I responded back and said I was sorry for "yelling" and assured them that I was not a scamer. But it has bothered me all day. I then realized that I won't be comfortable on a site that responds to a new comer in such a rude fashion:wow: . So again I am sorry if I have offened anyone. I wish you all the best of luck on your prodjects and you all have a great day. BECAUSE I AM OUTA HERE LARRY www.llcustomperformance.com

Well, that is too bad as someone of your talent could surely provide lots of useful info. I also used to write in caps (on other boards) and it didn't take long to realize that it was a no no.... so I complied and it has been smooth ever since... ha ha.. Anyway, this has been one of the more professional boards i have been on and really appreciate the vast knowledge and experience of its members.

Larry,

I feel as though this is a really good community and a well ran board.
I would overlook the comments that some may make.
When someone tries to express their opnions by typing it can be recieved or taken in many ways.

There are dudes that are going to come off rude, but with the large variety of people out there you will get conflicting attitudes.

This is a great place with great info for your projects. Also is a good way to meet some dudes that share the same passion for cars as you do.

Larry, I'm sorry to hear about your bad experiance here as we work very hard to make it fun and clean for everyone. Typing in caps on the net is known as yelling or raising your voice...I take it your weren't told of this in a kind manner...again sorry for that! As stated above, sharing your experiance and ongoing projects would be much appreciated!

Not sure about the scammer deal? I do know that we don't allow advertisement if you aren't a site supporter...is this what happened?

We value each and every member here and would love to have you stick around!

thats the thread he was talking about, nothing nasty at all, just mentioned that there are not to many people who are lousy typer's but can capitalize the first letter in each word, and i mentioned the scammer who typed the same way and i believe was from Wisconsin also.
all i did was state something, i was not nasty.

Maybe saying that he may be a scammer because he typed like one who was a scammer, might not have been the best thing to say to a new member who clearly had positive things to contribute. My dad is in his 60's and doesn't know the internet lingo either and at times types like that as well.

can you vouch for him? all he had to say was it was not him and that was that.

SO NOW I HAVE TO TYPE IN CAPS TO BE A SCAMMER? I thought I just had to have tattoos, who raised the bar again? I will never be a criminal if they keep raising the bar.

But, That is kinda of weird thing to say to some one.

But I think somebody needs to have little tougher skin, come on some guy makes a weird comment and you want to make an "I'm gonna take my toys and go home speech," Come on.

Can't we all just get along.

Hey Larry, sorry you feel that way. Keep in mind there is over 4,500 members here so, yes, you will have a few knuckleheads in here but over all the majority are cool members. Don’t give up so quickly. This is a great place to chat about what we all love….cars.

This is a great place for information and to share what you are working on.

Please stick around. I’m sure you’ll be happy you did.

Best of luck.:)

It's really tough sometimes getting acclimated to online forums since (besides smileys :D ) it's impossible to convey emotions... something typed in jest or off the cuff can also be taken more seriously. I've found it best to give other posters the benefit of the doubt - this really is one of the most laid back and non-confrontational (not to mention most informative) sites out there. We're all worse off if a good guy won't stick around and contribute, so let me step forward and apologize for whatever was said and let's get back to talking about cars! (And trucks and whatever ya got!)

It was wrong to even accuse. He didn't need have to justify it to you, nor do I have to vouch for him because of what you accused him of what you thought he might be. What was said is said and it's over now. Larry, please stick around. You don't need to go anywhere. :D

It's already been said but I'll say it again!

1. Larry, Please don't leave! Pro's comments were not to be taken that way!
2. It is hard to get across in writing what you really mean aside from the smileys!(That's why we need more!:unibrow:  See how that worked?!!?)
3. That being what it is ya have to give the benefit of the doubt to certain posts and just ignore others. Like the saying goes " Opinions are like A$$holes, everyones got one!"
4. Ya need ta get a little thicker skin(Especially with Rodger lurking around!:P )
5. What Rockdogz said!!!

i appreiciate all you coments. i probley let my emotion's get the best of me yesterday. i was in a bad mood at the time any way. had just dealt with a customer on why the expensive reproduction shelby parts for his mustang look and fitted like garbage! and why it was going to cost "x" amount of dollar's extra to make them fit. i came in to the office to unwind and this bit about "yelling" and possibley being a scammer came up. i felt insulted and it bother me alot. believe me i have thick skin , you can't be in the custom car and restoreation buisness for over 20 year's and not have! i am 52 year's old i built and paint my first car when i was 15 . i owned my own shop for over 20 years. maybe i should have spent less time building award winnig car's and more time learning to talk on a computor. as for the one post where i typed only capitalizeing the first letter of each word ,i don't even know how that happen, my caps where still locked. so i will end this by simpley saying not all of us understand or even are aware of your computor rules . to me written word is written word , it has no sound , no range of volume. next time some one type's with the caps on and it bother's you the respond back simply saying in the computor world that means your expressing a loud emotion. don't just come back asking what the heck their yelling at. like me they won't understand. so we will put this behind us . but from now on i type in small letters because if i have to try and remember to hit the shift key everytime i will go insane!!!! later larry www.llcustomperformance.com

Thanks for understanding Larry. As a test, you can go join any random message board and make a post with the caps lock on and someone will respond with the same joke. "Why are you yelling" Technically speaking, all caps makes it a bit more difficult to tell when one word ends and the next word starts. Socially speaking, you save the caps lock button for when you really do want to yell. There is a fair amount of lingo and etiquette to be learned. Not because others tell you to do so, but because it helps others to better understand your thoughts and comments.

And you can think of these message boards as online "virtual" car clubs. Just like at any local car club, a fair amount of ribbing is to be expected. Only the ribbing can easily come across the wrong way on a message board.
Scott and crew do an excellent job of keeping out the trouble makers. They'll put the smackdown on anyone who is intentionally antagonizing other members. You will need to trust their judgment. If they think a post or poster should be considered offensive, they will vigorously take action. And they did not take action in this case. I tend to agree.

Also there is an "Ignore" feature in your User Control Panel. If you find a member to be particularly annoying, you can choose to ignore just that member's posts. Click on the member's I.D., hit "Ignore" and poof!! They're gone. I use it all the time.

I really dig all of the roof chop photos on your site. You will make a worthwhile addition to "the club". Kick back, open a virtual "cold one" and help others build their cars. Encouragement is as important as technical support.

Hi Larry,

I understand your position totally, you have every right to be pissed. Even the suggestion I might be a scammer just because I typed in caps would piss me off too.

If you leave this site your making a mistake. Lateral-g.net is hands down the best on the internet. Everyone here has been kind and and made me feel at home from day one.

Put this small setback behind you and start posting. Remember, this site is a public forum. You wont always agree or like the responses you get but 99% of the time they will be favorable.

Welcome Larry!

I understand your lack of computer savy, my parent have purchased their first computer and my dad is... wel... let's just say that the thing intimidates the hell out of him!

I think you'll like our site. We have a lot of good guys, and even a few grumpy ones! ;) Still, just like yorself, we all have a bad day and take things the wrong way, or even give them in that fashion! Not that I have ever gotten my panties in a wad over nothing before  Well, OK... Maybe I have... Alright, I definitely have! :faint:

So, as I said, welcome! Me, I just figure most people are being a smarta$$ unless it becomes obvious they aren't. Makes it a lot easier to deal with the different personalities as well as the "keyboard barrier.":pushbutto

Hey if you get a chance to take a picture of my car next to Jarids post it or send it to me and I will post it for you. If you don't have a digital camera I will come over and take a picture. Larry did the body/paint work on my car after an other so called body man screwed my car up and the next guy didn't have the time to finish my car. He was the third guy to get my car. Just the fact that two other guys worked on the car makes it tough on a body shop but he took it in any way. He tells it like it is and will go beyond what is needed to make things right. I trust his work completely and wish I would have gone to him in the first place. I tried to save a buck and it ened up costing me a pile of money to fix my mistake. He is the real deal.
