Hey guys,

Quick question.

Will paint stripper remove the black EDP coating that repro body panels come with?

I'm trying to get it off the inside of my new quarter panels and tail panel so I can hit it with POR15. I started off with the DA, and it works fine on the flatter parts of the quarters, but it can't get to the tighter bends. 90% of the tail panel will have to be sanded by hand, hence my question about paint stripper.

not sure why you want to take it off, as if it does not come off with lacquer thinner its good to go and any paint issues etc will be handled by paint manufacturer as long as lacquer thinner does not wipe it off, i would scuff it up good and put por on top of it if you are set on using por

POR15 likes clean scuffed bare metal to adhere to. I did a little test when I replaced the rocker panels. I put POR15 on a small area of the EDP coating that I had scuffed with 180 grit. When it cured, it pealed right off, along with the EDP coating. Not good in a spot I can't get back into to fix.

I'm a big fan of POR15, I like it cause it's tough. More so than paint. I guess if I was just going to paint the inside of the quarters and all the other panels, scuffing the EDP would be fine. Unfortunately, POR and EDP don't play well together.

edp is not very thick. use a red scotch-brite pad it removes it pretty quick. much better than breathing those paint remover fumes and dealing with the mess.
