I have brodix -8 pro heads with D port exhaust on a small block 406 Im getting ready to install.
angled plugs
im looking for a set of headers 1 3/4 primaries
full length ceramic coated
I cant seem to find a set that will work?
someone said to use the headers for a 69 vette which has D port heads aswell but Id hate to find they dont work

try stahl headers.com they can put any flange on that you need and have an array of headers to choose from

Finding any "D" port headers is a pain. LT-1 headers are "D" port and have a choice of Impala, Camaro, or Corvette. I do have "D" port header gaskets when you get ready to need them

almost want to make me grind those suckers round lol
I see evidence of an adapter plate on the exhaust flanges too.
almost looked like big block headers were on it somehow.

I love my Super Comps by Hooker 1 7/8 however I want a set of shorty headers for my blown SBC 400 and still Lookin, Claude:willy:

I went with these for my blown 406. Sanderson (http://www.sandersonheaders.com/product_info.php?products_id=56)
1-7/8 tubes with a 3 inch collector and 3/8 flange, ceramic coated - no gasket required. This is really quality stuff. They might also be able to rig up some with D ports and long tubes.

We are all in the same boat with respect to finding the right headers for our limited ground clearance, high performance hot rods. The problem is compounded for applications that require larger than 1-5/8" primary headers. I have yet to find a company that can reasonably supply 1-3/4 or larger full length headers that also offer good ground clearance.

There is a great temptation to run a shorty or mid length header for best ground clearance, but the limited primary length creates a high risk of contaminating your 500HP-plus engine's intake charge. Pressure waves are an important factor in header design. And like any wave, exhaust gas pressure waves are bi-directional. Properly designed, these pressure waves can help scavenging, but pressure waves from shorty headers are more prone to contaminate the intake charge during camshaft overlap.

On a 300hp street rod, no one cares. Clearance is king and cam overlap is virtually non-existent. But for 500 HP and up pro-touring car, adequate primary length is mandatory.

But don't take my word for it. Read on:

yeah I agree
I come to the conclusion to get what I really need ill have to have a custom set made.
1200.00 for a stainless set of D port headers polished of course.
1 3/4 primaries

http://headerdesign.com/extras/design.aspYeah, I lost quite a bit going to shorties for ground clearance. The Stahl are supposed to be really good, but I really don't feel like getting belittled on the phone when ordering!

its ALWAYS cheaper to do it right the first time, so shelling out 1500 for a set of custom headers the first time out is cheaper than first buyinga set of shorties and ditching them because of poor performance, then a full length generic that you ditch because of low to no ground clearance and then finally 1500 for the right one....

Yeah, I lost quite a bit going to shorties for ground clearance. The Stahl are supposed to be really good, but I really don't feel like getting belittled on the phone when ordering!

Stahl isn't the only problem. It seems to be impossible to get header dimensions from any manufacturer. Universal fit headers designed for jacked up drag cars from the early 70's don't work. I believe Stainless Works already makes appropriate parts, but I have yet to extract dimensions or useful pictures from their website. Makes it difficult to take my wallet out. It's a marketing problem. Add some dimensions and detailed pictures to the website. Tell us the distance from the pan rail to the top of the collector. My own car, I settled for a set of Hedman race headers off the Mule with almost two inches from the top of the collector to the floorboard. Why? I'd rather see a disclaimer that states: "WARNING: Check clearance to floorboards" I'd rather massage a floorboard once instead of slowing down for every mid corner bump. If you gotta slow down for corners it ain't pro-touring. We've got a set of headers on the pace car that could double as jackstands. Ended up raising the car. It looks a little funny for now, but that's better than slowing down for corners.

I'm frustrated enough that I plan on taking a number of cars over to Kook's for measuring--starting with the pace car. I'll put George Jr. in the pro-touring header business. We need ground clearance and big tubes for both stock and aftermarket clips. Just about EVERY new hot rod is built low these days. Furthermore, average power levels continue to escalate. So the market exists for 1-3/4" -plus, low ground clearance pipes.
