View Full Version : Help me pick a brake setup for the Patriot Dream Camaro!

A company has contacted me about donating some brake parts once I get the setup picked out. I am not too up on 1st gen Camaro brakes, so school me a little. The last two cars I did brakes on were an LS1 Trans Am and a 79 Trans Am with 1LE rotors, which were both pretty simple setups.

The car is gonna be a 67 or 68 Camaro restomod with a Gen III 5.3L and a T56, so I'm thinking 4 wheel discs are in order here.

I need something affordable, since this project is mostly donation based and I'm trying to keep it on budget, but also reliable with good performance.

So throw me some ideas, fellas!

I'd go with the C5 stuff all the way around... Cheap and works well.

Is that the same sort of stuff as an LS1 Trans Am would have? I have an extra set of front and real calipers and brackets here off of my 98 TA, I could use them for a setup.

I believe the rears use the same calipers... That's about as far as it goes...

But I know the C5 rotors can be had from NAPA for $27 each...


That gives your budget quite a bit of wiggle room for the rest!

The biggest problem with c5 brakes is the brackets and you must run 17 inch wheels or larger. Keep that in mind. If you need somewhere for the brackets look into touring classics, they are very nice and will hook up you.

He sells brackets to make stock ls1 brakes work at all four corners. He is a great guy to deal with.

I got my rear brackets from KORE3 and am running ATS spindles in the front...

Sounds like based on your budget you should go with whichever brakes they are wanting to donate. What are your choices?

Well, we're going with the LS1 brakes. RotorsOnline.com has donated a set of slotted/drilled rotors, my friend Russ came over and dropped off a full set of calipers off of his 98 TA, and another friend has a booster, master cylinder, and partitioning valve for the project.

So all I need is the brackets and we are set to go! :thumbsup:
