Cocktail shakers

i keep hearing about cocktail shakers on convertible.
1- where are they located?
2- are they an absolute must have?
3- Can i replace them by some sort of bracing ?

Cocktail shakers are 50LB vibration dampners installed in each of the 4 corners of the car. 2 inside the trunk in the rear outer corners, and 2 in the front fenders near either side of the core support. Sub frame connectors do a lot. I would toss them if the frame conectors are installed.

As it turns out, I have a full set for sale. They are very, very, very hard to find, no repops are made, and most have been thrown away. The cost for the set is $32,769.00 for all four. No, that is not a typo.

Also included, is a highly original (with the exception of a re-paint), unmolested 1969 Camaro Convertible. Factory air, power top, 327 auto.

Honestly, you can feel and hear the effect of the cocktail shakers when you drive the car. They kind "whoosh" a little bit, I'd guess because they are nearly 40 years old at this point, but there is no question that you can feel the damping. Really cool!

Frank is getting senile in his old age. I think they are 26 lbs each. They are at each corner of the convert. They counteract the car wanting to sag in the middle as you go over bumps. If you stiffen the chassis up with connectors or cage etc you should be able to do without them but with a stock car, leave them in. It is a welded cannister with a cast weight sandwiched between two coil springs and the whole thing is full of oil.

LOL, I just re read that, 50LB per pair would be correct. And Mark is correct, they are very rare. The last set of 1969s I old were blasted ad painted pretty and brought $650. The shakers for Project prodigy (1967) only brought $400 bu that was a few years ago. I have a full set of Firebird's now, I will probably be disappointed after the home run on the Camaro's

Excuse me again for the dumb question but would i physically see them in the trunk? i suspect they are missing.

Yes, in the rear corners you will see either the canisters or the threaded holes for them in the floor and on the trunk rubber rail area.

Ok seems they are missing, can i use subframe connectors with the standard subrame that i have on the car? or do i need to add anything to connect them too?

This is a topic brought up for discussion ALOT at Team Camaro. Last time I checked it seemed that the general consenses was that they made a difference in ride quality even with connectors. They are VIBRATION dampers. Vibration can occur even with stiffeners-although less frequent and with less intensity. The most prone area seems to be the cowl and front windshield. If you drive on smooth surfaces you probably wouldn't miss them on a stiffened car, but on anything else....... Camaro owners that had cars without them and then install them, state the difference is quite noticable. Personally I would like to remove them for the extra space, but don't dare. If you got them, keep em.
