Hi John,
It doesn't go through my headers. I am using Stainless Works "Wayne Due" headers, if we left the stock Camaro column orientation, it would hit the last tube. We were able to angle it down and away by moving the bottom lower point.
It's the lower mount that controls the angle through the front sub frame. I am using a stock upper mount, with clamps welded to it, that bolts into the stock location on the dash support. For some reason, my "bolt in" Flaming River steering column didn't have a provision for the mount. You could probably shorten up the top mount and increase the angle, but I wanted to have a lower steering wheel.
Normally, they mount high through the lower mount. As you can see, I had to lower it about 2.75" and build a new mount that uses a Flaming River orbital that will take a whole lot more angle. It really wasn't that hard, just a bit of time and 3/16" aluminum that I had on hand.
I added a few pics that shows the orientation.
I am away, so my buddy is working on the final steps. Since we had the front sub frame open, he welded nuts on the inside of the sub frame. Yep, my down bars were anchoring to tapped box tube, nothing on the inside... I think it's a bit better off now. He also sealed up the cuts... and now has a lot of flap disking to do. I feel sad for his nose, cause it's going to be black booger time. I am glad to be away for once
