In Oregon or other mountainous areas it can be. Even my Garmin 276c with remote antenna will occasionally lose reception on the way to the coast or heading up into the Cascades mountains. Also in major metro downtown areas with tall buildings interfere with satellite reception. Really depends on the region you typically drive in.

I have not seen the new look. If they get them to look like stock gauges I will be all over it.

If I remember it is a bit more than a few dollars difference. $200ish vs $700ish.

Redline Gaugeworks can convert a mechanical speedometer to electrical to use the PCM/VSS. Shannon can also renumber and retick as well.

Both of these were reworked. The speedo changed to use VSS and from 120 to 160mph. The tach was also reworked using modern VDO parts and the redline increased.

Their new system (Dakota I believe...) keeps working without a signal, then just updates itself whenever it can.
