Default custom dash

I would like to build a custom dash either out of aluminum or sheet metal. I would use 1/8" aluminum but not sure what size sheet metal. Any ideas on the thickness of the sheet metal required if it supports itself without a frame behind it? Thanks

18 gauge mild steel. Most dashes support themselves off of the A pillars and the backside of the firewall. You can build any bracing you want but you have to take into consideration everything that will need to fit behind it, ac unit,ac vents and ducting, stereo, wiring etc.
