Question TH700 conversion

Hello Everyone!

This is my first thread here and want to start off by thanking everyone for all the great information I have found on this site. But, I am looking for a little more help. I am in the process of building a 1969 SS clone. Its an automatic transmission car, and I would like to put a TH700 in it, but still use the stock horseshoe shifter. From everyone I have talked to, they are saying in order to do that i must give up the ability to put my tranny in 1st gear manually.

I have seen a couple conversion kits out there, and didnt know if they would solve this problem or not. Unfortunately i've only seen them to convert powerglide to the th700. I have a Turbo 350 atm.

Thank you in advance!

Where did you get your 700r4 tranny from? I am looking for the right one for my 73 camaro and would like some more info.

I'll have to find out for you. The guys at GM-Muscle.com, that are restoring my car, are getting it for me.

Any 700R4 from a full size van, truck or Astro will work as a core. S-10's with the 4.3 are the same also. Have it rebuilt to Corvette (or better) specs and you will be good to go.

Thumbs up

Ever thought of a 2004R? Better ratios (imo) and they can be built to handle better power. I went through 3 700R4s (all built by a big name vendor) and after the 3rd one I started asking questions and was steered toward the 2004R.
